Martin Keown states his prediction for Arsenal v Chelsea in FA Cup final
The former Arsenal defender is hoping Arsene Wenger can pull off an upset against Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon
Martin Keown is hoping that Arsenal can pull off an upset against Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley.
The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League table despite winning 3-1 against Everton on the final day of the 2016-17 season.
Liverpool, though, beat Arsenal to the final Champions League spot thanks to a 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Anfield.
Laurent Koscielny was sent off in Arsenal’s win against Everton to leave Arsene Wenger without his key defender for the FA Cup final.
Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare under Antonio Conte and finished 18 points ahead of their London rivals.
Writing in his Daily Mail column about the clash between Arsenal and Chelsea in the FA Cup, former defender Keown said:
“My head tells me Chelsea will win 2-1… but my heart says Arsene Wenger could still pull something out of the hat.
“Seeing Laurent Koscielny sent off and Gabriel stretchered off was a massive blow.
“Arsenal are up against a Chelsea side that could bring on Eden Hazard and Diego Costa to win the FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham, the second-best team in the country.
“But Wenger still has a fighting chance — if you believe in him you believe this could be his day to win against all odds.”
Chelsea were 3-0 winners against Arsenal in their most-recent Premier League meeting at Stamford Bridge earlier this year.
The west London side haven’t won the FA Cup since beating Liverpool at Wembley in 2012.
