Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere grateful for Arsene Wenger’s unwavering faith
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere thanks Gunners manager Arsene Wenger for sticking by him through tough times
Jack Wilshere has thanked Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for his unwavering support throughout his blossoming career at The Emirates.
The 21-year-old has been forced to contend with a string of injuries in the past couple of years, whilst also suffering from a loss of form earlier this season.
Wilshere became Arsenal’s youngest-ever debutant aged 16 years and 253 days when the midfielder replaced Robin van Persie in a 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in 2008.
And the Arsenal midfielder appreciates Wenger’s guidance and support during the initial five years of his stint at the Gunners – and is relishing the chance to learn more from the Gunners boss.
“He has been the main person. He gave me a chance and brought me into the first team. He put his arm around me,” Wilshere said.
“There were a lot of young players coming through but he picked me out. To play with the first team you learn so much. He sent me out on loan to help me get used to Premier League
football and when I came back he gave me the chance.
“Some games I didn’t play well but he still stuck with me. When you make mistakes he stands by you.
“I have been around for a long time. I should be used to playing week-in, week-out.
“I am 21 but I have been playing for four or five years and that can only help me. I am
looking forward to learning more.”
