Wojciech Szczesny admits Arsenal should be challenging for the Premier League title and not settling for a fourth-place finish.

The Gunners led the title race for much of the season but the north London side’s bid faded away after heavy losses to rivals Chelsea and Liverpool.

I play for Arsenal because I want to win the title every year

Arsenal wrapped up the fourth and final Champions League spot thanks to a 1-0 win against West Browmwich Albion on Sunday ahead of their FA Cup final.

However, Poland international Szczesny isn’t satisfied with fourth place and wants to lift silverware with the three-time Premier League champions.

“It is good to sign off with a win in front of our fans, but with two games to go we had nothing to play for and I think we shouldn’t really be in that position – we should be fighting for the title, so that is disappointing,” Szczesny said.

“I never considered fourth place before the start of the season as a successful season and a good position – I play for Arsenal because I want to win the title every year.

“Obviously at some point, when you lose games and you lose the chance to fight for the title, then the new challenge is to secure the Champions League spot and that was the aim this season, but I wouldn’t have taken it before the season.”
