Arsene Wenger: Alexis Sánchez has ‘power and quality’ Arsenal need

Arsene Wenger is backing Alexis Sánchez to add some much-needed firepower to Arsenal’s attack next season.

The Gunners completed the signing of the Chile international from Barcelona for a fee of around £35m on Thursday after weeks of speculation linking him with a move to north London.

Arsenal heavily relied upon Olivier Giroud up front last season, with the Frenchman scoring 16 league goals in 36 games.

And Wenger believes that the arrival of the 25-year-old will give his front-line a huge boost as they look to challenge for the Premier League title.

Wenger said: “As many people have seen during the World Cup this summer, Alexis is a fantastic footballer and we are delighted that he is joining us at Arsenal Football Club.

“Alexis will add power, creativity and much quality to our squad and we are all looking forward to him joining up with us in a few weeks.

“He has consistently produced top-quality performances at the highest level for a number of seasons now and we are all excited to see him integrate into the Arsenal squad.

“I’m sure all Arsenal supporters will join me in welcoming Alexis to our club.”
