Arsene Wenger: Arsenal are on the way up and can win the title

Arsene Wenger is convinced that Arsenal are heading in the right direction – and towards their first major trophy since 2005.
The Gunners head into Wednesday’s home clash with Cardiff City top of the Premier League table and a point ahead of second-placed Manchester City.

Arsenal have recorded the second-highest win rate in the club’s history in 2013, with the north Londoners boasting 64.8 per cent record over the last 12 months.
And Wenger, whose side won 35 of their 54 games in 2013, believes that statistic is the perfect platform from which to continue their title hunt.
“It says a lot,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “Unfortunately until now it has not been crowned by a trophy.
“But it is a basis to achieve a trophy and that long consistency must reinforce and strengthen our belief that we can deliver something special this season.
“That’s what it can be used for but of course it is a remarkable achievement because Arsenal has an especially strong and long history. That tells you that these players are doing something special.”
The Frenchman continued: “You can always do better. I would be really happy if we won every single game and scored 200 goals and conceded zero but overall it’s a decent record. That shows what is the most difficult to achieve is consistency.
“Also it shows a trend that the team is on a way upwards and that is the most pleasing thing because from January until December, you could see that the team is getting stronger.
“I personally must say it was a privilege to experience that year with my players because they not only have class on the pitch but as well off the pitch they have shown a remarkable behaviour and it is a privilege to experience that.”
