Arsene Wenger hails Arsenal’s ‘football servant’ Mesut Ozil
Arsene Wenger singles out "team player" Mesut Özil for special praise ahead of Arsenal's clash with Fulham
Arsene Wenger has singled out “team player” Mesut Ozil for special praise ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Fulham on Saturday.
The 25-year-old has made a smooth transition to life in the Premier League following his big-money switch from Real Madrid last summer, scoring four goals and making seven assists in the English top flight.
He is football servant with the fact that he always does what the game wants
And Wenger believes that Ozil’s selfless attitude is the key ingredient to his success at the top level.
“He is a first of all a team player,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.
“And also a football servant with the fact that he always does what the game wants and he has a big respect for the game. That’s the brand of a real top-level player.”
Wenger, whose side lead the Premier League from Manchester City, also claimed that he has more strength in depth in his current Arsenal squad than ever before.
He continued: “In midfield we have plenty of quality players who you can rotate easily without really feeling, ‘today we are weaker’.
“We have fantastic players in midfield and it always allows us to keep what we call the ‘engine’ of the team fresh.
“It is a real team effort. Maybe because every player in his position has a strong personality as well – you have that feeling.
“I would say purely on the football front it’s true that we only have excellent players in every position and that allows you to have different types of teams that can really be efficient.”
