Arsene Wenger is expecting Mathieu Flamini to be available for selection for Arsenal’s trip to Manchester United on Sunday.

The French midfielder missed the victories over Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund with a groin strain picked up in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace last month.

Wenger also revealed that Jack Wilshere will undergo a late fitness test after the England international sat out the Gunners’ last two games.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been suffering with an ankle inflammation but has been included in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the forthcoming friendlies against Chile and Germany.

“Normally, Flamini will join us in the session this [Friday] morning. Wilshere will join in as well, so we will see how they are after the session today,” Wenger said.

“Flamini, I am quite confident will be fully available. Wilshere, we will see how he responds to his inflammation of the ankle.”

Wenger also moved to play down fears that striker Olivier Giroud could suffer from burnout during the course of the season after being relied upon heavily as the Gunners’ first-choice forward.

“He is [being asked to do a lot]. He has the physical resilience to cope with that, he has good stamina, a strong body and has a great appetite for the game,” Wenger continued.

“He has not been recognised for a long time in his career, he is very hungry to play in every game and he can cope with it. I don’t see any sign of fatigue.”
