Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal’s impressive victory over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday will stand his side in good stead for their trip to Manchester United on Sunday.

Aaron Ramsey’s second-half header handed the north London side a famous 1-0 win as they became the first English team to win at Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion.

And the Frenchman is hoping that the Champions League triumph will give his side the momentum heading into Sunday’s crunch clash at Old Trafford.

“It [Wednesday’s win] will of course be a big lift because we are on a good run in the Premier League and not many teams have won here,” said Wenger, whose side are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

“But in every game you need to turn up with a top-level performance and that’s what we want to do on Sunday to have a chance to win.”

He added: “I just hope that it strengthens the belief of my team that we can put another great performance in.

“You know we have another massive game on Sunday, and we want that kind of performance again.”
