Arsene Wenger: Mesut Ozil has given everyone at Arsenal a lift

Arsene Wenger says that Arsenal have been buoyed by the arrival of Mesut Ozil at the club following the Gunners’ win at Sunderland.
The Germany international impressed on his Premier League debut as he set up Olivier Giroud for Arsenal’s opener in a 3-1 win at the Stadium of light.
And Wenger believes that there is much more to come from the 24-year-old playmaker, who moved to Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid in a £42.5m deal on transfer deadline day.
“He had not practised with the team at all but he looked very comfortable, especially his first touch,” said Wenger.
“His passing and his retention of the ball gives everyone time to move; his game is based on a lot of movement.
“He gives us a kind of technical security with interesting creativity.
“He is a great player and there is a lot more to come from him once he gets used to the contact in England. He’s given everyone a huge lift.”
Wenger opted to start Ozil after Santi Cazorla was ruled out of Saturday’s clash with an ankle problem.
“He was like a guy who was invited to play for us because he was sick,” he continued. “But for a guy who was invited he did well.
“There was a demand from everybody to have a player for reasons that we didn’t challenge for the title because we lost big players without being capable of brining the same stature of players in.
“So that was a huge lift for everybody who loves our club.”
