Arsene Wenger on prospect of Mesut Özil & Santi Cazorla partnership
Arsene Wenger plays down the prospect of Mesut Özil and Santi Cazorla playing together for Arsenal against Norwich
Arsene Wenger has played down the prospect of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla playing together for the first time after the pair were both passed fit for Saturday’s clash against Norwich.
The Arsenal boss confirmed that Ozil has recovered from a minor knee problem, while Cazorla is available after his lay-off with an ankle injury.
But Wenger feels that the focus should be on his team’s desire to improve rather than any individual talents.
“You want always your best players to play together in a very positive way,” said Wenger when asked about Cazorla and Ozil.
“It can happen, but I’m very happy at the moment with the team that’s played until now.
“I believe what is important is that instead of focusing on one or two players, we should focus on developing ourselves as a team and improve as a team – there is still room for improvement.
“There is still that desire inside the team to improve that.”
Wenger, whose side top the Premier League table, is also hoping his side can continue their impressive form after the international break.
“I think at the top level one of the keys is to switch on and off when it’s right,” he continued.
“The quality that is needed after a long break is to switch on again in a quick, fast and efficient way. I’m confident we will do that.”
