Arsene Wenger replies when asked if Arsenal could sell Alexis Sanchez to Chelsea
Arsene Wenger pours cold water on suggestions that Arsenal could sell Alexis Sanchez to Chelsea in the summer transfer window
Arsene Wenger has poured cold water on suggestions that Arsenal could sell Alexis Sanchez to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
There had been suggestions in the British media this week that Chelsea had made Sanchez one of their top transfer priorities this summer.
However, although Wenger admits that Arsenal had been in positions where they had to sell some of their best players in the past, the Gunners boss is adamant that is not the case any more.
“It is true that it happened before, when we were in positions financially where we had to sell our best players. That’s not the case any more,” said Wenger, speaking at a news conference at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground on Thursday morning.
“Look, he has a one-and-a-half year contract so I don’t think that it is an immediate concern for Arsenal Football Club.”
Sanchez has been one of Arsenal’s standout performers this season and has scored 18 goals and made nine assists in the Premier League for the north London side.
The Chile international will be expecting to feature for the Gunners when they host Manchester City at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon as they look to get their top-four bid back on track.
