Arsene Wenger is still the right man for Arsenal, says Alex Song
Barcelona midfielder Alex Song says Arsene Wenger is still the "right man" for Arsenal despite another season without silverware
Alex Song says Arsene Wenger is still the “right man” for Arsenal despite another trophy-less season at The Emirates.
The Gunners boss underlined his commitment to the north London side last week after being linked with Carlo Ancelotti’s position at Paris Saint-Germain over the past month.
Arsenal failed to launch a Premier League title challenge this term and crashed out of both domestic cups before losing to Bayern Munich at the last-16 stage of the Champions League.
But the 25-year-old Cameroon midfielder, who joined Barcelona from Arsenal last summer, believes his former club should keep faith with Wenger as the Gunners look to secure a top-four finish this season.
“He’s the right man,” Song told Sky Sports’ Special Report.
“I spent eight years with him and he’s just unbelievable. I still keep in touch with him and the last time I met him he was very happy. Hopefully he’ll stay longer at Arsenal because if they lose him today then they won’t be the same.”
Song also insisted he is enjoying life at Barcelona, who are on course to win a 22nd La Liga crown, despite being limited to 15 top-flight starts this season.
“It’s a pleasure to be here,” he added. “Many people want to be here so I know I’m lucky to be here.
“It is different here than Arsenal. It’s not the same. Arsenal have very good players but Barcelona have the best player in the world – Lionel Messi – and that’s why the pace is different.
“We have quality players. I’m not saying Arsenal don’t have quality players because they do, but Barcelona are the best team in the world.”
