Arsene Wenger should recruit Santi Cazorla to bolster Arsenal ranks

Sharethematch.com looks at Arsenal's reported transfer targets, and why selling Robin van Persie may be a good idea

Will Wenger finally be tempted to invest?

Despite finishing third after a terrible start to the season, Arsene Wenger will surely recognise the need to strengthen his squad following last season’s display – especially since Robin van Persie seems set on leaving the club.

An 8-2 thrashing at the hands of Manchester United was enough to persuade Wenger last year, but will he be more pro-active this time around?

The Gunners have been heavily linked to Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla in recent days, casting doubts over the recovery of Jack Wilshere.

Wenger has already recruited Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud to strengthen his attacking options, and Arsenal fans will hope he continues to re-shape the squad.

The sensible option may be to sell Van Persie now and cash in on him before his contract runs out next summer, but Wenger may be more cunning than that.

With Arsenal already planning deals for Yann M’Vila and 17-year-old striker M’Baye Niang, Van Persie could possibly be tempted to remain at The Emirates.

Malaga’s financial difficulties mean that Cazorla could be bought relatively cheaply, so Wenger could stick to his principles of not over-spending and sign a quality player.

Although it is unlikely Van Persie will stay at Arsenal, at least Wenger is looking to build his squad now, and not make last-minute, rash purchases as he did last year.

Villas-Boas should focus on squad harmony

Stevie Wonder once sang about everybody living in perfect harmony but this wise man’s words are clearly not on the playlist at White Hart Lane.

Most Tottenham fans are yet to get their heads around the sacking of Harry Redknapp and even more around the appointment of his replacement Chelsea flop Andre Villas-Boas.

But with the dust settled manager-wise, the turmoil has passed to the players where there has been no shortage of incident.

It is no secret that Luka Modrić wants to swap the white of Spurs for that of La Liga champions Real Madrid after he failed to attend pre-season training and snubbed the club’s tour of America.

And now his fellow Croatian Niko Kranjcar, a shadow figure in the squad, has blasted Spurs chairman Daniel Levy over the matter claiming he used lies to deceive the public.

Villas-Boas’ track record of getting all his players unifiend is not complementary after he encountered player uproar for making questionable managerial decisions at Chelsea.

If he wants to ensure there is no reoccurrence of a divide he must take charge and usher those who do not want to stay at Spurs sold.
