Arsene Wenger believes Mathieu Flamini deserves a recall to the French national side following his impressive displays for Arsenal.

The 29-year-old has been a mainstay of Wenger’s Gunners side following his return to Emirates Stadium on a free transfer in the summer.

Flamini, who has made seven appearances so far this term, has just three international caps to his name and has not featured for Les Bleus since 2008.

But the Gunners boss feels that the midfielder could be in line for a recall to the national set-up if he can continue his fine form.

“I think Mathieu Flamini can earn a recall to the French national side,” Wenger wrote on his blog on Eurosport.

“It might too soon to call him up immediately, but I would have thought that Didier Deschamps would call on him at some point.

“He is very focused, he is experienced and he has recovered physically. He is a winner, so I think he has a chance.

“Deschamps had his players in mind this time, so why not another time? He has performed well lately.”
