Aston Villa 0 Arsenal 3: Danny Welbeck happy to ‘get off the mark’
Aston Villa 0 Arsenal 3: Danny Welbeck pleased to score his first Gunners goal at Villa Park
Danny Welbeck expressed his satisfaction to score his first Arsenal goal after an emphatic victory over high-flying Aston Villa at Villa Park.
The Gunners weathered an early Villa storm to break the deadlock in the 32nd minute as Welbeck teed up under-fire Mesut Ozil for his first Premier League goal of the season.
The World Cup winner returned the favour less than two minutes later as 23-year-old Welbeck opened his Gunners account after a £16m move to The Emirates from Manchester United.
An Aly Cissokho own goal capped off a crazy six-minute period in Birmingham, allowing Arsenal to see out the second half with relative ease and secure their first league win in three attempts.
“I’m particularly pleased to get off the mark. It was a good team performance,” Welbeck told BBC Sport.
“We got behind them. We knew it would be difficult today. They had their chances but when we took our first one we looked in control of the game.
“I haven’t had as many training sessions as I ‘d like but I am starting to get to the players a lot better.”
