Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 2: It’s been best few weeks of my life – Townsend

A jubilant Andros Townsend admitted it’s been one of the “best few weeks” of his life after the winger fired Tottenham Hotspur to victory at Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old, who scored on his England debut at Wembley nine days ago, broke the deadlock at Villa Park when his cross drifted over Brad Guzan and into the net in the 31st minute.

And Spain international Roberto Soldado ended a five-game goalless run in the Premier League when the striker doubled Tottenham’s lead with 21 minutes remaining.

“It’s been one of the best few weeks of my life. The main thing was getting back to winning ways after the defeat by West Ham. We didn’t have the best of first halves as Aston Villa defended very well,” Townsend told BBC Sport.

“My goal was a cross. I’m not going to take credit for it but it put us on the way to a great three points.

“The main thing for me now is to keep my feet on the ground and not to get too carried away.”

Meanwhile, Sandro handed a Tottenham a boost after successfully coming through his first Premier League start since January due to injury.

“I feel very good coming to the field today, as I was out for a very long time. I have to enjoy this time, as it was very hard for me to get back playing again.”

He added: “It was very good. After losing against West Ham, everyone had their heads down. It was a hard game and we have to enjoy this moment.”
