Michael Owen states his prediction for Atalanta v Man City
Michael Owen is backing Manchester City to beat Atalanta on Wednesday night
Michael Owen is backing Manchester City to ease to a straightforward win at Atalanta on Wednesday night.
The defending Premier League champions are looking to win the Champions League title for the first time in their history.
Manchester City have qualified for the Champions League round of 16 in the last six seasons but the Eastlands outfit haven’t reached the final.
The Citizens have made an impressive start to their current Uefa campaign following three successive victories, scoring 10 goals and conceding once.
Manchester City were 5-1 winners against 10-man Atalanta at The Etihad last month to move to the brink of a place in the last 16.
Pep Guardiola’s side will be eager to build momentum ahead of their trip to Premier League leaders Liverpool FC on Sunday afternoon.
Former Manchester United striker Owen is backing Manchester City to ease to victory over Atalanta on Wednesday night.
“City will qualify for the knock out stages with a win in Italy and I would be surprised if Pep Guardiola’s side did not follow up their 5-1 win in the reverse fixture at the Etihad with another three points,” Owen told BetVictor.
“The hosts have conceded 11 goals in their three group games to date although, before their defeat to Shakhtar on Matchday 2, they were unbeaten in 12 European home matches.
“Note the game is being played at the San Siro in Milan rather than in Bergamo given Atalanta’s stadium – which is currently being rebuilt – does not yet meet the UEFA criteria.”
Manchester City haven’t got past the Champions League quarter-finals in the last two seasons.
The Citizens lost 5-1 to Liverpool FC on aggregate in the 2017-18 season before Spurs beat Manchester City on away goals in the quarter-finals last term.
Manchester City are playing in their ninth UEFA Champions League campaign and they’ve reached the round of 16 or better in the last six campaigns.
