Marin Cilic’s US Open triumph has triggered a huge surge in demand for tickets for this year’s ATP World Tour Finals in London, according to data released by viagogo.

The ticketing website reported a staggering 187 per cent surge in searches for the ATP World Tour Finals following Cilic’s impressive win over Kei Nishikori in Monday’s US Open final, which saw the 25-year-old claim his first Grand Slam title.

Cilic’s win, which saw the Croatian return to the top 10 of the ATP Rankings, at number nine, for the first time since 2010, catapulted the star into contention for a spot at this year’s season finale, with this year’s race taking a surprising turn as the a new crop of younger players rise through the ranks.

The ATP World Tour Finals are the climax to the men’s professional tennis season and take place from 9 to 16 November 2014 at The O2 in London.

A viagogo spokesperson said: “Cilic’s new found status as the latest Grand Slam champion appears to have inspired players outside the big four.

“The first Slam final in almost 10 years not to feature Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray has rocked the status quo and, with the battle to make it London looking wide open, it seems fans are excited about seeing who will qualify for this year’s season finale.
