ATP World Tour Finals 2014: Stan Wawrinka hoping for crowd support
Stan Wawrinka is expecting a testing clash against Roger Federer in the semi-finals
Stan Wawrinka is hoping that the London crowd will get behind him when he takes on Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals.
Wawrinka beat Marin Cilic 6-3 4-6 6-3 on Friday to reach the last four after his debut appearance at the season-ending tournament 12 months ago.
The Australian Open champion accepts that Federer is likely to have much of the support in the O2 Arena, and Wawrinka is expecting a testing clash.
“I hope I can get a little bit of support because I know people love him here,” said Wawrinka.
“It’s going to be tough for me, but I need to trust myself and go for it.”
Reflecting on his win over Cilic, Wawrinka added: “It was a tough match, it’s never easy to play against Marin, he’s been having an amazing year.
“Today it was not easy, trying to be aggressive. I was trying to serve and volley. To win it’s important for me.”
