Michael Owen is backing Bayern Munich to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

Spurs have already booked their place in the Champions League last-16 draw thanks to a 4-2 victory over Greek outfit Olympiacos in their last fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, the Lilywhites will travel to Bavaria with a point to prove under Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement Jose Mourinho, who was appointed last month as the new Spurs boss.

Mourinho will be eager to maintain their momentum following four victories in their opening five games under the two-time Champions League winner so far.

The Tottenham manager will presumably be keen to secure a big scalp to lay down a marker ahead of a potential meeting with a European super club in the last 16.

The Spurs squad will be out to restore some pride with a first win at the Allianz Arena following a 7-2 hammering by Bayern in north London earlier this season.

Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Bayern to beat Spurs in their meeting on Wednesday night.

“Bayern scored seven in the reverse fixture in London and have won all five group games to date,” Owen told BetVictor.

“The Germans will become just the seventh team in the history of the competition to win all six group games if they beat Spurs in what is largely a “dead rubber” with both sides guaranteed their place in the last 16.

“Bayern have lost their last two domestic games and Spurs will be desperate to exorcise the result from Matchday 2, but I still feel the hosts will edge what promises to be an open, entertaining clash in Munich.”

Spurs were 5-0 winners against Burnley in their last Premier League game at the weekend.

The Lilywhites picked up only two points on their travels in the 2018-19 Champions League group stage, and have won only four of their 14 away group matches in Europe’s elite club competition.
