Paul Merson states his prediction for Bournemouth v Arsenal
The Arsenal legend is backing Bournemouth to heap more away day misery on Arsene Wenger's side
Paul Merson has backed Bournemouth to heap more misery on Arsenal on the road when Arsene Wenger’s men make the trip to the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.
The Gunners have a poor record on the road in the current campaign following a poor return of 13 points from a possible 33 in 11 away games.
Arsenal played out a dour goalless draw at Chelsea in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge mid-week following a shock 4-2 loss to Championship side Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round.
The north London side are in sixth place in the Premier League following one win in their last four games on the road to lose ground in the top-four race with Liverpool FC five points clear.
Bournemouth secured a 3-3 draw with Arsenal on the south coast last season to give the Cherries some hope of getting a positive result against Wenger’s men.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson believes Bournemouth will edge to a 2-1 win against the Gunners in the Premier League’s early game on Sunday.
“Arsenal weren’t free flowing at Chelsea by any means but it was a good result for the first leg of a semi-final, there’s no doubt about that,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Bournemouth will take the game to Arsenal and I fancy them to get a result. I just don’t think Arsenal are that good at the moment. They struggled at the Vitality last season and I think Bournemouth will go after them again.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot for the first time under Wenger.
