Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers says Luis Suárez doesn't need to prove anything to his critics after scoring 22 Premier League goals
Brendan Rodgers insists Luis Suárez is not concerned about winning over his critics ahead of Liverpool’s clash against West Ham United on Sunday.
The Uruguay international has scored 22 Premier League goals this season, with Suárez one of the leading candidates to win the player of the year award.
While Suárez has impressed for his match-winning performances, the South American has been at the centre of several controversies since moving to England.
But Rodgers is adamant that Suárez is not concerned about his detractors and says that the striker is a great player to work with on a day-to-day basis.
“It’s not his job to be liked, he’ll be respected because he’s a top football player and it won’t concern him too much if people don’t like him,” Rodgers told Yahoo!.
“He is a player who has great humility, I see the guy every day and I’ve worked with hundreds of junior and senior players and he is one of the most likable, most humble people I’ve come across.
“The likability of any player is always up for debate, and people will always use their own moral compass to judge Luis Suárez, but that’s not something I tend to focus on. I concentrate on what he is like with me on a day-to-day basis and he is a great man.”
Suárez joined Liverpool in a £22.75m deal from Ajax in January 2011.
