Brendan Rodgers: Why Alexis Sánchez snubbed Liverpool for Arsenal
Brendan Rodgers claims Alexis Sánchez chose to join Arsenal ahead of Liverpool because he wanted to live in London
Alexis Sánchez turned down a transfer to Liverpool in favour of Arsenal because he wanted to move to London, according to Brendan Rodgers.
The Gunners confirmed the £32m signing of the Chile forward last week despite Liverpool being keen on luring the 25-year-old to Anfield as part of the deal that saw Luis Suarez join Barcelona.
He’s a fantastic player and would have suited us

The Northern Irishman admits that Sánchez would have “suited” the Anfield club but says the player had his heart set on a move to the English capital.
Rodgers said: “That was one [Sánchez] where geography dictated where he wanted to go – simple as that. It’s been the other way.
“Lots of players are really impressed by what we are doing as a club and really excited about coming to Liverpool.
“It wasn’t due to a lack of ambition by the club. It was about where the player and his family wanted to choose to live.
“He’s a fantastic player and would have suited us. His profile would have been great but it was not to be and we move on.”
