Mark Lawrenson is confident Chelsea FC will ease to a comfortable win against Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues will be looking to extend their winning run when the west London side make the short trip to the Amex Stadium for the second time since Brighton’s promotion in 2017.

Chelsea FC have an impressive record against the Seagulls following six successive league victories to make the top-four challengers overwhelming favourites this weekend.

In fact, Brighton haven’t beaten Chelsea FC since 1933 to underline the size of the challenge facing Chris Hughton’s side.

The Seagulls have a good record at the Amex Stadium so far this term following four victories and two stalemates in their opening seven home games.

Chelsea FC, on the other hand, have lost their last two games on the road following defeats at Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, former Liverpool FC and Brighton defender Lawrenson is confident Maurizio Sarri’s side will beat the Seagulls on Sunday afternoon.

“Brighton’s home record is decent, with only one defeat from seven games at the Amex Stadium this season,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“So, this will not be an easy afternoon for Chelsea, but I still think they will build on last weekend’s impressive win over Manchester City.

“Chelsea were second-best for most of the first half against City but they were able to hang on, and then they capitalised when they had a good spell. They should be able to cope with whatever Brighton can throw at them too.”

Chelsea FC are in fourth place in the Premier League table and level on points with Arsenal, who will face Southampton at St Mary’s.

The Blues started the season with five successive Premier League victories but Sarri’s side have only managed to win five of the last 11 outings.
