Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Brighton v Arsenal
Mark Lawrenson is backing Brighton and Hove Albion to draw 1-1 with Arsenal on Sunday
Mark Lawrenson is backing Brighton and Hove Albion to heap yet more misery on Arsenal by claiming a 1-1 draw against the Gunners in Sunday’s Premier League clash.
The north London side have been in stuttering form in recent weeks and they were thrashed 3-0 by Manchester City at home in the Premier League on Thursday night.
That defeat came after their disappointing 3-0 loss to the Citizens in the League Cup final at Wembley last weekend.
Arsenal are now way off the pace in the race for Champions League qualification, with the Gunners now sixth in the table and 10 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with 10 games left to play this season.
It seems incredibly unlikely that the Gunners will be able to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League via the league given how they have been playing in recent weeks.
And former Liverpool FC star Lawrenson is tipping the north London side to have yet more problems when they travel to the south coast on Sunday lunchtime.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “After Brighton’s win over Swansea last week, I think if you offered Chris Hughton a point against Arsenal then he would take it.
“Signing Jurgen Locadia and Leonardo Ulloa in January has given them competition for places, and also kick-started Glenn Murray again.
“The Seagulls just need to keep picking up points and I think this is a fixture where they are happy to get one. That is not being negative – it is a good thing if it keeps their unbeaten run going.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season but won the FA Cup under Arsene Wenger.
The north London side will be hoping to win the Europa League to book their place in the Champions League for next season.
