Brian O’Driscoll believes the British and Irish Lions still have “plenty to work on” after a convincing nine-try victory over Western Force in Perth.

The 33-year-old replaced Paul O’Connell as captain in the absence of Lions skipper Sam Warburton and capped an impressive performance with two tries either side of half-time.

In particular, O’Driscoll and Manu Tuilagi showcased their potential as a centre partnership as the Leicester Tigers powerhouse teed up his veteran team-mate in the second half.

“Reasonably pleased with the performance, plenty to work on, particularly defensively but, yeah, we scored some good tries,” O’Driscoll said after the 69-17 win.

“We have to continue building this … we need to keep moving it forward because we know what test lies ahead of us against the Wallabies in a few weeks time. So, great aspects to the game but plenty to work on.”

Jonny Sexton and Tom Croft scored first-half tries to match O’Driscoll’s effort before Jamie Heaslip, Tommy Bowe, Manu Vunipola, Owen Farrell and Geoff Parling all crossed over in the second half.

Leigh Halfpenny, playing at full-back, was prolific with the boot as he was given kicking duties ahead of Sexton, landing all nine conversions and two penalties.

And the Wales star said: “I’m pretty pleased – we’ll take that to start with. But it doesn’t stop there – we will enjoy this but we’ll get back on the training field and continue with the hard work.

“Jenks [coach Neil Jenkins] been giving me a couple of pointers and reminding me what I’m good at – striking the ball.”
