Stuttgart striker Cacau is confident Germany can do well in South Africa.

Germany are among the favourites to win the competition and Cacau believes one of his side’s major strengths is that many teams fear playing Joachim Löw’s men.

“It’s very difficult to become world champions, but I know just how much respect other countries have for Germany. Germany are feared because they never give up. To hold the World Cup trophy would be something very special,” Cacau told the official Stuttgart website.

Cacau, 29, spoke of his excitement going into the tournament and said he would do his utmost to make it into the starting eleven, though he admitted he was not one of the favourites to start against Australia.

“I’m feeling really good,” he continued. “After all, it is the dream of every footballer to participate at  the World Cup. I am really delighted to be a part of the German national team. I feel at home here. I think and I feel German.”

“Lukas Podolski, Mario Gomez and Miroslav Klose currently have their noses in front, but it’s my target to play and I really want to take my chance. I’m not your typical centre forward, I’m very mobile and can set up other players very well.

“It’s very difficult to become world  champions, but I know just how much respect other countries have for Germany. Germany are feared because they never give up. To hold the World Cup trophy would be something very special.”

As well as Australia, Germany also face Ghana and Serbia in the group stages of the competition.
