Cardiff City defender Steve Caulker believes Tottenham Hotspur are capable of achieving "big things" this season

Steven Caulker believes Tottenham Hotspur are capable of achieving “big things” this season.

Spurs midfielder Paulinho scored an injury-time winner to seal a 1-0 win at Cardiff City in Wales on Sunday, moving the White Hart Lane outfit up to second behind north London rivals Arsenal.

Andre Villas-Boas spent in excess of £90m on new players this summer, such as Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela, whilst Gareth Bale completed a deadline day world-record move to Real Madrid.

Caulker moved to Cardiff from Tottenham in July, and the 21-year-old centre-half was particularly impressed with his former club’s attacking performance.

“It was devastating with the late goal from Tottenham,” Caulker is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“I thought their movement up front was great. But they have spent a lot of money and when teams spend that amount of money you expect big things from them.

“I would say defenders will worry about the threat from different areas. They have got Roberto Soldado and Christien Eriksen running off and you have got to be focussed.

“It’s slightly different. Without Bale they did not have that threat but they have other players who came in and looked strong.

“With the players they have brought in and the squad they have got they should be achieving things. When you bring on a £27m plus player in the last minute it is going to be different. With the money they have spent they will cause teams problems.”
