I’m not worried about my job, insists Chelsea boss Ancelotti

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti remains adamant that his job is safe despite a turbulent month with the Blues.

The reigning Premier League champions have failed to secure a league victory since their unconvincing 1-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge on 10 November and have won just two of their last eight games in all competitions.

Chelsea begin a testing festive season with a trip to White Hart Lane this weekend, before facing both Manchester United and Arsenal.

And despite his side’s dip in form Ancelotti remains confident about his position at Stamford Bridge and believes his side can turn their form around with a much-needed victory at Tottenham on Sunday.

“I am not worried about my position, just by the fact that we are not doing our best,” said the 51-year-old. “We have to do better to move on from this moment quickly.”

The former AC Milan boss fielded a full strength side against Marseille on Wednesday, yet a lethargic Chelsea display saw the French champions triumph in a narrow 1-0 victory to deny Ancelotti’s side a perfect record in Europe this season.

“Everyone now thinks we will be beaten in our next game,” he added. “I picked my strongest team against Marseille because we are in a bad moment and this was a chance to change that.”

He continued: “But we missed this opportunity because we didn’t win and we didn’t play well, so the bad moment continues.

“Now we have a very difficult game against a very good Tottenham team and we all have to stay strong and focused.”

And Ancelotti refused to criticise star striker Didier Drogba despite the Ivory Coast international now having failed to score from open play in over two months – his last strike coming against Arsenal in early October. Drogba, 32, was hauled off after 62 minutes on his return to Stade Velodrome on Wednesday night.

“Maybe Drogba was affected by the emotion,” he said. “Obviously it was not a good performance from him.”
