Manchester United will face Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League after the clubs were paired together in Thursday’s draw.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men booked their place in the knockout round after topping their group, as Jose Mourinho’s La Liga champions could only finish as runners-up in Group D.

United defender Rio Ferdinand tweeted: “Oh yes, Madrid!! What a great couple a games that’ll be! @Cristiano see u soon bro!”

Arsenal will take on current Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, while Celtic will face Serie A winners Juventus.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon said: “In terms of glamour it’s a beauty. Juventus are one of the great European teams.

“In terms of qualification it’s going to be very tough. We will take it as it comes, we’re looking forward to the games now and I’m sure the supporters will be as well.”

Elsewhere, AC Milan take on Barcelona, while Galatasaray will play Schalke.

The first-leg ties will be played on 12/13 February and 19/20 February.
