Jamie Redknapp reacts to Jack Wilshere’s display in Arsenal’s 0-0 draw at Chelsea
Jack Wilshere earns praise from Jamie Redknapp after Arsenal's goalless draw with Chelsea in the League Cup semi-final first leg
Jamie Redknapp lavished praise on Jack Wilshere for his fine first-half performance in Arsenal’s goalless draw with Chelsea in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final clash on Wednesday night.
The midfielder was handed the captain’s armband for the north London side and produced a strong performance for the Gunners in west London.
Wilshere has been working his way back to full fitness in recent weeks after having returned to the club from a loan spell at Bournemouth last season.
However, his evening was cut short on Wednesday night when he picked up a suspected ankle injury after blocking the ball.
Wilshere was substituted after 57 minutes at Stamford Bridge, but Redknapp was still impressed by his contribution.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, ex-midfielder Redknapp said: “I enjoyed Jack Wilshere’s performance.
“He was the best player on the pitch in the first half. He controlled the game and played great give-and-gos.”
Arsenal now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their trip to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table as they look to try and get back into the Champions League for next season.
Arsenal will host Chelsea in the return leg of their League Cup semi-final clash in two weeks’ time.
