Chelsea 1 Man City 2: Mancini expects a difficult FA Cup final
Chelsea 1 Man City 2: Roberto Mancini says Wigan Athletic will be difficult to beat after the Citizens reach the FA Cup final
Roberto Mancini warned Manchester City that Wigan Athletic will be a tough opponent after the Citizens booked their place in the FA Cup final by beating Chelsea.
Samir Nasri fired the Eastlands outfit into a first-half lead after the France international bundled his way past three Chelsea defenders and lifted his finish over Petr Cech.
Sergio Aguero then scored his second goal in as many games to double City’s lead just after half-time, before Demba Ba netted an instinctive strike to halve their advantage.
“It was an important game. I said before the game, it would be difficult because Chelsea are in a good moment but we deserved to win. We had some problems in the second half, we were missing a third goal,” Mancini told BBC Sport.
“It was a difficult game. The players did well to win this game, fighting for every ball until the last second.
“In the first half we had everything under control. When Demba Ba scored, it caused us a problem for 10 minutes.”
He added: “When we won the FA Cup against Stoke, it was a difficult game, and I expect the same against Wigan.”
Mancini also defended Aguero’s two-footed challenge on David Luiz in the second half after referee Chris Foy did not take any action against the City striker.
“I don’t think, I don’t think [it was a stamp.] It was a tackle but Sergio is a good guy,” the Citizens boss said.
The Italian played down City’s chances of overhauling Manchester United’s 15-point lead in the Premier League title race.
“Now for the Championship we can do nothing, I think that we could have won another title if we worked well last summer, but that is the past.
“Now we have to win the final and finish second in the championship, that is our target.”
