Rafael Benítez felt Chelsea were worthy winners after his side reached the FA Cup semi-finals at the expense of Manchester United.

After a largely uninspiring first half at Stamford Bridge, Demba Ba volleyed the Blues into the lead in the 49th minute, before Petr Cech produced a stunning save to deny Javier Hernández on the hour-mark.

And Benítez, whose side headed into the game on the back of a Premier League defeat at Southampton, said his side deserved the victory.

He told ITV1: “I’m really pleased because the players did a great job against a very good team. We did really well and with the ball we were much better.

“It was a great goal [by Ba] and everybody was really pleased in the stadium apart from the United fans.

“[Cech] did one or two good saves but also we had one or two opportunities to win the game. I think at the end of the day we deserved to win.”

Chelsea will now take on Manchester City later this month at Wembley for a place in the FA Cup final.
