Chelsea 2 Galatasaray 0: Lampard thrilled by ‘professional’ display
Chelsea 2 Galatasaray 0: Frank Lampard hails a "professional" display as Blues reach Champions League last eight
Frank Lampard hailed Chelsea’s “professional and controlled” display as they beat Galatasaray to book their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Samuel Eto’o fired past Fernando Muslera in just the fourth minute to put the Blues into the lead.
The performance was everything we wanted it to be
And defender Gary Cahill wrapped up a 3-1 aggregate win when he turned home the ball after John Terry’s header was saved three minutes before half-time.
Chelsea, up against former Blues striker Didier Drogba, became the first English club to reach the Champions League last eight – and Lampard was delighted by the manner of his side’s win.
“The performance was everything we wanted it to be,” Lampard told ITV.
“It was a tough game, people can take for granted that we got a decent result out there and think we were going to win comfortably. From beginning to end they hardly threatened, it was a very controlled and a very professional performance.”
Lampard added: “I won’t make any predictions yet. There a lots of great teams still left in it. We’ll wait and see who we get drawn against. It gets tougher every year but we’re still in it.”
