Chelsea 2 Tottenham 2: Michael Dawson insists Spurs will continue fighting for a top-four finish despite draw
Michael Dawson insisted that Tottenham will continue fighting for a top-four finish despite seeing their Champions League qualification hopes dashed by a draw at Chelsea.
Chelsea took an early lead when Oscar turned home Gary Cahill’s header from a corner but Spurs drew level thanks to Emmanuel Adebayor’s superb curling finish into the top corner.
Ramires then gave the Blues the advantage before half-time with a poked shot but substitute Gylfi Sigurdsson netted an equaliser for the visitors with 10 minutes to play.
The result leaves Spurs in fifth place in the Premier League table and a point behind Arsenal with two games left to play.
“The draw keeps it going,” Spurs captain Dawson told Sky Sports. “It’s out of our hands again now if Arsenal win their two games. But we’ll keep fighting. We’ll go to Stoke at the weekend and hopefully get back to winning ways.”
Dawson was pleased with his side’s resilience after twice showing the character to come from behind at Stamford Bridge.
“We gave ourselves a mountain to climb with the early goal,” he said. “Then Adebayor got us back in it with a great goal and they went ahead again.
“But we showed that fighting spirit that we’ve and kept going and going. Gylfi hit a great finish and we nearly nicked it at the end.
“They had a few chances and hit us on the break but we showed some spirit.”
