Chelsea

Petr Cech Was not involved much throughout the game but showed how good a goalkeeper he is to superbly save from Draxler in the second half. 6/10

Branislav Ivanovic Energetic performance but did not get into his usual attacking positions. 5

Gary Cahill Solid performance from the centre-half and produced a good tackle to prevent Fuchs getting an opening before pinching the ball off an oncoming Meyer late on. 6

John Terry The Chelsea skipper and Cahill performed well as a unit all night, and Terry produced a good late block on Meyer after the Schalke attacker got beyond the home side’s back-line. 5

Cesar Azpilicueta Got forward well and was more importantly effective in defence. But could have cost Chelsea a goal after Draxler cut in and shot. 5

Ramires Started off slowly with a couple of loose touches but came into the game. 5

John Obi Mikel Did not look comfortable in the opening stages but tracked back impressively. 5

Andre Schürrle Great performance on the German’s 23rd birthday and almost opened the scoring with a free-kick from 30 yards. Schurrle then shot just wide before forcing a good save of Hildebrand. 7

Oscar Was not instrumental as he can be but provided an energetic performance and could have had a goal but strayed offside after Cahill’s pass. 5

Willian Good all-round performance and provided a superbly weighted pass for Chelsea’s second. 6

Samuel Eto’o (Man of the match) Chelsea’s star player closed down Hildebrand to score the opener out of nothing just as he did against Cardiff before a textbook finish for his second goal. 8

Roman Neustädter His presence was not felt and he did not atone for loss of concentration in the build-up to Torres’ goal in Germany in the reverse fixture. 5

Dennis Aogo Showed his pace but only real danger caused was a teasing cross into Cech’s box late on. 5

Kevin-Prince Boateng Seemed to try a little to hard and saw some attempts of flair go wrong but tried his best to attack the Chelsea back-line. 5

Jermaine Jones Almost played Fuchs through and a produced a clever ball to Draxler in the second half but also had a few loose passes at Stamford Bridge. 6

Julian Draxler After scoring his first league goal of the campaign at the weekend, he almost netted again but for a fine save by Cech. However, the German was lucky to escape a second yellow just before half-time. 6

Adam Szalai Given a start by Jens Keller after coming on in the previous fixture against Chelsea, but the Hungarian was quiet and didn’t trouble Jose Mourinho’s men. 5
