Chelsea 6 Arsenal 0: Jose Mourinho praises his side for their impressive start as the Blues thrash the Gunners
Jose Mourinho heaped praise on his Chelsea side for their electric start after the Blues thrashed 10-man Arsenal to extend their lead at the top of the table.
The Gunners, playing their 1,000th game under Arsene Wenger, fell 2-0 down after seven minutes through goals from Samuel Eto’o and Andre Schurrle at Stamford Bridge.
It was 2-0 in seven minutes and the game was over
Eden Hazard then netted a penalty after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s handball, with referee Andre Marriner mistakenly sending off Kieran Gibbs.
Oscar scored twice before substitute Mohamed Salah completed the rout, which saw Chelsea open up a seven-point lead at the top of the table.
“I think we started in an incredible way,” Mourinho told BT Sport. “It was 2-0 in seven minutes and the game was over.
“We started very strongly and the message was important because we wanted to try and make Arsenal feel not comfortable with the way they like to play.
“After that comes the penalty and the red card but I think the game was resolved in 10 minutes.
“The penalty was a penalty, the red card was a red card, but unfortunately the wrong boy has been sent off.”
Mourinho went on to underline the importance of Saturday’s win over their London rivals.
“We had momentum but for some reason last Saturday the momentum stopped,” he continued. “Now we are trying to build more momentum. The victory against Galatasaray was important and so was this victory over Arsenal.
“It was a very important match for us because Arsenal are a very important rival for us and are a rival also in the fight for the top four. It was important to beat them today.”
