Chelsea all but out of title race, concedes Gary Cahill

Gary Cahill admits that Chelsea are all but out of the title race following their surprise defeat at Crystal Palace.

A John Terry own-goal early in the second half condemned Jose Mourinho’s men to their second loss in three Premier League outings and allowed Liverpool to leapfrog them into top spot in the table.

The Blues are now two points behind the Merseyside outfit with six games left to play – and with Manchester having played two games less, Cahill is concerned that Mourinho’s side have left themselves with too much to do.

“If I’m totally honest probably, yes, that’s certainly how I felt at the end of the game,” Cahill told Chelsea’s website when asked if the Blues were out of the title race.

“It hurts losing any football match and it certainly hurt at the end of the game because we knew how vital three points would be. For us to not get them is very damaging.

“It’s massively disappointing, the feeling at the end of the game was horrible but all we can do is keep pushing and try to win our games.”

Cahill admitted that the Blues need to be more “ruthless” after the shock defeat against Palace.

“We have to be ruthless, go to places like Selhurst Park and do a job,” he said. “We knew it was going to be a difficult game but we have to get the job done, unfortunately we didn’t do that.”
