‘Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will be pleased with PSG draw’
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will be pleased with their last-eight draw against Paris Saint-Germain, says Jamie Redknapp
Jose Mourinho will be pleased with Chelsea’s Champions League last-eight draw against Paris Saint-Germain, according to Jamie Redknapp.
The Blues were rewarded with a clash against the French champions after a 3-1 aggregate victory over Roberto Mancini’s Galatasaray on Tuesday night.
Mourinho branded Chelsea and Manchester United outsiders for the Champions League crown in his pre-match media conference on Friday morning.
I think it is a 50—50 game. Chelsea will believe they can beat them
And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp described the tie as a “50-50” encounter.
“I don’t think Mourinho will be too disappointed,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News.
“PSG are a good side. They went to Barcelona last year and were unlucky to get beaten that night.
“They’ve got quality players: Cavani, Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva. They’re defensively sound at the back.
“I think it is a 50—50 game. Chelsea will believe they can beat them. To have the second leg at Stamford Bridge is also important for them.
“It will be a really tight game.
“I look at Chelsea and they did it in 2012, there’s no reason they can’t do it again.
“I’m sure he will have been pleased with this draw. I don’t think they would have wanted an Atletico Madrid where Chelsea might have been favourites.
“Jose loves to be the underdog.”
