Martin Keown: Antonio Conte must regret these two Chelsea FC transfers
The Arsenal legend believes Antonio Conte will be ruing the decision to allow Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic to leave Chelsea FC
Martin Keown believes Antonio Conte must be kicking himself over Chelsea FC’s decision to sell Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic.
The Blues won the Premier League title with two games to spare after finishing seven points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea FC sold Matic in a £40m deal to their title rivals Manchester United despite his influence throughout their title-winning campaign.
The defending Premier League champions have struggled without the defensive midfielder in the 2017-18 season so far.
The west London side made the decision to allow Costa to complete a switch on loan to Atletico Madrid with view to a permanent deal.
Chelsea FC summer signing Alvaro Morata has struggled with a loss of confidence and form, as well as fatigue in recent weeks.
The west London side lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the League Cup semi-final mid-week, while the Gunners have only won one of their last six games.
Former Arsenal defender Keown questioned the logic behind Chelsea FC’s decision to sell two of their key players.
“Chelsea FC reigned supreme last season but no sooner had they won the title, they were dismantling their team by allowing Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic to leave,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“Conte must regret the decision to let those two go every day.”
Chelsea FC are in third place in the Premier League table and 15 points adrift of current leaders Manchester City.
The Blues are still in the FA Cup following a penalty shootout win over Norwich City in the third round.
