Derby County have given Chelsea FC permission to speak to Frank Lampard about becoming their new manager, according to a report in England.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Chelsea FC and Derby have agreed upon a £4m compensation package so the Blues can now speak directly to Lampard.

The same article states that Chelsea FC are planning to offer Lampard a three-year deal to replace Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

According to the same story, the west London side will look to complete an agreement with Lampard within the next 24 hours following weeks of speculation.

The Daily Mail go on to say that Chelsea FC could even name Lampard as their new manager as soon as Friday.

The report adds that Lampard will accept the opportunity to return to Chelsea FC this summer, with former Blues midfielder Jody Morris set to move to Stamford Bridge from Pride Park as part of Lampard’s backroom staff.

A Derby statement read: “Derby County Football Club can confirm that they have granted permission for Chelsea Football Club to speak to Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge.

“With pre-season fast approaching for both clubs it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions.

“The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so.”

Sarri led Chelsea FC to a third-placed finish in the Premier League last season to ensure Lampard will get his first taste of Champions League football as a manager next term should a deal go through.

The Italian coach won his first major trophy in football management when Chelsea FC beat Arsenal 4-1 in the Europa League final in Baku.
