Alvaro Morata has set himself a target of 15 to 20 goals in the Premier League this season.

The Spain international has enjoyed a recent upturn in form following a difficult spell towards the end of Antonio Conte’s spell in charge of the west London side.

Conte signed Morata from Real Madrid in the 2017 summer transfer window to replace Diego Costa in the starting line up in the 2017-18 Premier League season.

The 26-year-old netted seven times in his opening seven games in the top flight last term, however, Morata scored just three goals in his last 25 outings under Conte.

The Spanish forward has returned to form under Conte’s replacement Maurizio Sarri, finding the net five times in his opening 10 games in the Premier League season.

Morata netted twice in Chelsea FC’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge last weekend to suggest that he has turned a corner at the west London club.

Speaking to Chelsea FC’s website about his targets for the Premier League season, Morata said:

“Of course I want [to be among the top scorers in the league] but I think it is not the most important thing.

“If we want to be in a position to fight for the Premier League I need to score many goals, Eden has to score many goals, Olivier has to score many goals and all the attackers, Willian, Pedro, Ross Barkley. We need goals to win. It is not the most important thing [to be top scorer].

“Sometimes you play good and you give a lot of things for the team and you don’t score, and it seems like you play bad.

“In the Premier League there are the best strikers in the world I think. There is Salah, there is Mane, there is Firmino, Aguero, Kane. In Spain and Italy there are good strikers but here you have 10 strikers who can score every weekend and it is very hard, but at the end of the season the important thing is to be in the first place [in the League].

“If you score 15 or 20, that is good because we are strikers and we want to score but we need to win also.

“I need to work a lot to be like them. I have started scoring again for two weeks and now I am happy, the team plays good and I don’t need to think about scoring more goals than other players.

“For sure I always want to score because it is good for me and sometimes people think I don’t like to score, but there are good defenders and good keepers.

“But now I think I have more chances than last year. Last year I could only score with headers and this year I don’t score with headers, it is different, but the most important thing is I finally find the right way and my head is okay.”

Morata arrived at Chelsea FC with a wealth of experience following spells at Real Madrid and Juventus, where he won numerous La Liga titles, Serie A crowns as well as the Champions League twice.

However, the Blues striker has struggled to adapted to the Premier League given the division’s physicality, while his rival for a first-team place Olivier Giroud has excelled as the target man in Sarri’s team but hasn’t matched Morata’s goals.

The Spain forward was part of Chelsea FC’s squad that won the FA Cup last term thanks to a 1-0 victory over Manchester United, although Hazard proved to be a match winner for the west London outfit.
