Antonio Conte urged to build Chelsea FC team around these five players
The Chelsea FC legend believes the Blues need to build their team around Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Eden Hazard, N'Golo Kante and Thibaut Courtois
Pat Nevin believes Chelsea FC should build their team around Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and Thibaut Courtois.
The Blues are facing the prospect of a rebuild following a disappointing 2017-18 Premier League campaign under Antonio Conte in his second season in charge.
Chelsea FC ended up in fifth place in the Premier League table to leave the Blues facing the prospect of a season without Champions League football.
The west London side ended the campaign on a high note after Chelsea FC were 1-0 winners against Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley last weekend.
Belgium international Eden Hazard scored a first-half winner from the penalty spot after Manchester United defender Phil Jones brought down the 27-year-old in David De Gea’s area.
Former Chelsea FC winger Nevin believes the Blues need to construct a new team around the spine of Azpilicueta, Courtouis, Hazard, Kante and Rudiger.
“He [Rudiger] joins Azpi, Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and Thibaut Courtois in what I hope will be the base of the team going forward for quite some time,” Nevin told Chelsea FC’s website.
“It is the summer now and there will be changes, there always are, but as long as those five stick around it will be possible to be competitive at the highest levels.”
Chelsea FC have won the Premier League title in two of the past four seasons under Conte and Jose Mourinho, but the Blues missed out on Champions League football in 2016 and 2018.
The west London side lost 3-0 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park in their final Premier League game of the 2017-18 season.
