Gary Neville believes Antonio Conte will be axed if Chelsea FC crash out of the Champions League this month.
The Blues have endured a difficult start to the new year following a disappointing run o four victories in 15 games in all competitions in 2018 so far.
The defending Premier League champions lost 1-0 to current leaders Manchester City following Bernardo Silva’s winner at the Etihad Stadium.
Chelsea FC have lost their last two Premier League games following losses to Manchester City and Manchester United to leave the Blues well off the pace in the top-four race.
The west London outfit squandered a 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 with La Liga giants Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash last month.
Argentina international Lionel Messi cancelled out Willian’s opener to score a vital away goal ahead of the return leg at Camp Nou on Wednesday 14 March.
Former Manchester United defender Neville believes Conte’s future is looking bleak, especially if the Blues lose to Barcelona in the last 16.
“The Chelsea hierarchy have been clinical and brutal in the past – the second season for Chelsea managers are notoriously difficult after they’ve won a league,” Neville told his Sky Sports podcast.
“What we’re starting to see is typical Chelsea. If they get knocked out of the Champions League then you could see this ending quite quickly for Antonio Conte, who has done a brilliant job at the club.”
Chelsea FC haven’t won the Champions League title since 2012 when the west London side beat Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on penalties at the Allianz Arena.
The Blues have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons.
