Antonio Rudiger sends message to Blues supporters about new Chelsea FC signing
The Chelsea FC defender opens up about January signing Antonio Rudiger
Antonio Rudiger has described Chelsea FC signing Emerson Palmieri as a “good guy”.
The Brazilian defender completed a £23m move to Chelsea FC from Serie A giants AS Roma in the January transfer window.
Palmieri was signed to provide more depth at the back given the west London side’s well-documented struggles in 2018 so far.
The January signing will rival Marcos Alonso for a starting spot in Antonio Conte’s team in the final months of the season.
Rudiger played alongside Palmieri in the Roma defence for 12 months before the centre-half completed a £34m move to Chelsea FC from AS Roma last summer.
The South American is still waiting to make his first Chelsea FC appearance following his big-money move last month.
Speaking to Chelsea FC’s website about Palmieri, Rudiger heaped praise on the 23-year-old full-back.
“I just told him, ‘You have to decide for yourself’,” Rudiger said.
“I could have said whatever I wanted, but he had to listen to his feelings. I told him that maybe this chance comes only one time in life.
“I told him about the league. It’s one of the best leagues, and Chelsea is a good club. Of course Roma are a good club as well, but for this kind of decision you must decide for yourself.
“He is a very, very humble guy,’ Rudiger adds. ‘To help him is a duty for me. Me and him were very close in Rome, and I want it to be the same here. I want to be like a big brother for him.”
Chelsea FC lost 4-1 to Watford in the Premier League on Monday night to heap pressure on Italian coach Antonio Conte.
The Blues have suffered defeats in their last two games following a 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge last week.
Chelsea FC will be hoping to bounce back ahead of their Champions League round of 16 clash against Barcelona later this month.
