Pat Nevin reacts to Chelsea FC signing Christian Pulisic
The Chelsea FC legend opens up about the Blues signing Christian Pulisic earlier this week
Pat Nevin has backed Christian Pulisic to be a success at Chelsea FC, despite raising questions about the size of his price tag.
The United States international completed a big-money move to the west London side from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
Pulisic became the club’s first signing of the January transfer window, although the American will remain on loan at the German team for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old arrives at Chelsea FC with a big reputation, although the most expensive American player has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in the Dortmund team this term.
Pulisic has scored 15 goals in 115 games over the past three-and-a-half seasons at the Westfalenstadion, but the Chelsea FC signing has only won the German Cup during his spell at Dortmund.
Former Chelsea FC winger Nevin tipped Pulisic to be a positive addition to the Blues team, although the former Scotland international does have some concerns about the size of the price tag.
“Who is he going to replace?” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“He is a wide player but can play at No10 as well. Is he going to take Pedro, Willian or Hazard’s place? You don’t need all of them and add Pulisic as well.
“He is young, only 20, and £57m is a lot of money for a player that age. He is not an absolute certain starter for Dortmund. I have watched him a couple of times.
“He is a really exciting player. He has great skills and has fantastic pace. There is every chance he will be a success.”
Chelsea FC were held to a goalless draw with Southampton in mid-week to allow Arsenal and Manchester United to close ground on the west London side in what promises to be a competitive title race.
The Blues finished in fifth spot in the Premier League table last term.
