Chris Sutton insists Chelsea FC squad are still producing for Antonio Conte
The Chelsea FC legend believes Antonio Conte can still count on the support of the Blues squad
Chris Sutton believes Chelsea FC’s dogged but fruitless performance in Wednesday night’s 3-0 loss to FC Barcelona proved that the Blues squad are still playing for Antonio Conte.
The Chelsea FC manager has been under intense pressure in recent months following a difficult start to 2018 for the title-winning coach.
The Blues squandered a 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 with FC Barcelona in the first leg of the last-16 clash at Stamford Bridge last month after Lionel Messi cancelled out Willian’s opener.
The Argentina international produced another great Champions League performance at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night after Messi scored his 99th and 100th goals in Europe’s premier competition.
Summer signing Ousmane Dembele got on the score sheet to secure a 3-0 win and 4-1 aggregate triumph after Messi’s quickest goal of his career broke the deadlock in the third minute at Camp Nou.
Chelsea FC have now won four of their 17 games in the calendar year so far to prompt questions about Conte’s long-term future at the west London club despite winning the Premier League last term.
Former Blues striker Sutton believes Conte still has the support of the Chelsea FC players despite their disappointing run of form.
“The Chelsea players are still playing for their manager, Antonio Conte,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“There has been a lot of effort and endeavour, they have not chucked it. They have stuck with it, they have made mistakes, but they’ve kept going.”
Chelsea FC haven’t won the Champions League since 2012.
