Glenn Hoddle predicts Chelsea FC star will develop into ‘proper player’
Former Chelsea FC manager Glenn Hoddle is expecting big things from Fikayo Tomori
Glenn Hoddle has backed Fikayo Tomori to develop into a “proper player” at Chelsea FC.
The English defender produced a composed performance to help Chelsea FC claim a 1-0 victory over last season’s Champions League semi-finalists Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday evening.
Tomori helped the Blues defence to keep the free-scoring Dutch side at bay before Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to score an 86th-minute winner in Amsterdam.
The 21-year-old won four aerial challenges, made three successful tackles and finished with a respectable pass completion of 80 per cent in the heart of Frank Lampard’s defence.
Tomori has already established himself as a first-choice defender since the Chelsea FC legend took over the reins of the west London side from Maurizio Sarri in the summer.
Former Blues manager Hoddle is expecting big things from Tomori following his promising start to his Chelsea FC career.
“He’s a defender that actually loves to defend first. He’s a real defender who is going to get better and better on the ball and that’s going out of the game. He can play in both channels, Gareth [Southgate] must be looking at him,” Hoddle told BT Sport.
“He’s got to get better and more experienced, but where is he going to be in three years time? He’s going to be a proper player.”
Chelsea FC have managed to get their Champions League campaign back on track following vital victories on the road at Lille and Ajax after a defeat by Valencia in their group-stage opener.
The Blues are in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points ahead of Arsenal heading into their trip to Burnley in their next top-flight fixture on Saturday.
