‘They’ve shocked me’: Pat Nevin rates Chelsea FC’s start under Frank Lampard
Chelsea FC legend Pat Nevin gives his verdict on Frank Lampard's Blues side
Pat Nevin has admitted that he has been “stunned” by Chelsea FC’s impressive form in the Premier League under Frank Lampard.
The Blues were 2-1 winners against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday evening thanks to goals from Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic.
Chelsea FC are in third place in the Premier League table and six points ahead of Arsenal in fifth spot.
Abraham has scored nine goals in the Premier League so far this season, while Pulisic has netted four times in the top flight.
Lampard has shown a willingness to place his trust in youth this season, giving Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori the chance to shine.
Chelsea FC have won eight of their last nine games in all competitions, with the only blotch on their record a 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup last week.
Former Blues midfielder Nevin admits that he didn’t expect Chelsea FC to hit the ground running under Lampard so smoothly.
“Chelsea have shocked me more than anybody this season,” Nevin told BBC Sport.
“I thought they would have been mid-table considering all the changes they have made. I am stunned by how well they are doing and how good they look.”
Chelsea FC finished in third spot in the Premier League table last season under Maurizio Sarri.
The Italian head coach quit Chelsea FC in the summer to take over the reins of Juventus.
Lampard spent the 2018-19 season in charge of Championship side Derby County before he was offered the Blues job.
