Jamie Carragher has admitted that he was stunned by Chelsea FC’s lack of ambition in Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Manchester City.

The defending Premier League champions made the trip to Pep Guardiola’s side looking to record just their fifth win of 2018 so far.

However, Chelsea FC produced a negative performance in 1-0 loss to the Premier League leaders following Bernardo Silva’s winner.

The Blues didn’t show an appetite to net an equaliser despite a top-four place on the line following victories for Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea FC have now managed to win just four times in their 15 games in the calendar year so far to heap pressure on Antonio Conte.

The Blues are in fifth place in the Premier League table and five points behind Tottenham, who occupy the final Champions League spot.

Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher delivered a damning verdict of Chelsea FC’s performance at The Etihad.

“Whatever level of football it is, I saw something on Sunday I have never ever seen before in my life on a football pitch – and that was people [Chelsea players] walking when the ball was like five or six yards away from them,” Carragher told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. There was 20 minutes to go and they were losing 1-0. Who is at fault there? Is it players being lazy, a terrible attitude? Or is this the players saying the instructions the manager has given us, we’ve got no chance.

“I can’t believe Conte would be happy with that. I have never seen anything like that at any level of football in my life.”

Chelsea FC have won the Premier League title with two games to spare last term after the Blues finished seven points clear of Spurs.

The west London side have won the English top-flight crown in two of the past three seasons under Jose Mourinho and Conte.
